An Ulm tradition: Fischerstechen
During the first traditional water jousting tournament in 2017, better known as “Fischerstechen”, several atento folding tents were put into service. Good weather, tasty food and a boisterous mood made the traditional event a great success for young and old alike.
Since 1662, this tournament takes place every four years and is organized by the Ulm skipper club. On the Donau River between Ulm and Neu-Ulm, brave men fought with spears while thousands of people in the crowd cheered them on. To mark the beginning of the event, which lasts two days, fighters in historical costumes tried to push the opponent over board of the narrow boats into the river by using spears with a total length of 2,80 m.
