Erkelenz – a city seized by the cycling fever
Every year in May, the so-called “Fahrradfrühling” (bicycle spring) lures cyclists from near and far to the city of Erkelenz (Rhineland). No matter whether it concerns cycling tourism, guided bicycle tours or bicycle sales markets – the city is well prepared for the local and foreign cycle-fans and offers everything they can imagine.

On 18 June 2017, another bicycle-related event will premiere at Erkelenz: “Stadtradeln” (city cycling)! As if to say “Cycling for a better climate”, the habitants take part in a competition throughout Germany, which is the further development of a campaign created according to the Nuremberg climate alliance. Until 8 July 2017, the distance covered by the registered cyclists as well as the amount of CO2-savings, will be compared to the results of other German municipalities.
This event has several positive effects: On the one hand, the cycling tourism is strengthened – you can rediscover the city in a completely new way. On the other hand, traffic and pollution will be reduced significantly during that time. As an incentive measure, there are of course some prizes around the bicycle for good results.
City marketing counts on atento
Before the actual event, the city undertakes great advertising efforts: Ms. Stoffels, the head of the city marketing department, counts on her two robust 3×3 m atento folding tents. The light blue pavilions with prints of the city logo and the cycling event logo invite to stay and get information.
