When sport overcomes all borders
This summer, about 125 teens from the land of the rising sun said “Konnichiwa Berlin”.
The Japanese delegation spent 18 days at Germany in the course of the 45. Deutsch-Japanischen Sportjugend-Simultanaustausch (an exchange between German and Japanese sport youngsters).
Clash of cultures
The main goal of the exchange program was to get to know the German and Japanese culture better and to form friendships based on the common love for sports. After teens from Germany had travelled to Japan before, the Japanese now came to visit them in return.
In their German host families, they could get a good insight into the everyday culture; countless trips strengthened the bonds between the visitors and hosts, so that valuable friendships were formed. Of course, the sport didn’t come up short – the youngsters of Deutsche Sportjugend trained together with their guests and tried all kinds of sporty activities.
Farewell party with RUKU
For both sides, the time went by too quickly – on 15 August, it was already time to say “Sayonara”. In order to make this day an unforgettable one, all exchange participants and their host families met for a big farewell party at the premises of Landessportbund Berlin.
Underneath the countless RUKU canopy tents of LSB, memories were relived, funny stories of the last days were told, photos and contact details were exchanged. During the mixed entertainment program, everyone laughed and celebrated – and awaited the inevitable moment of goodbye with a little bit of melancholy.
Not a goodbye forever
However, the mobile canopy tents will be used for many more of those multicultural parties – because thanks to the contract extension, this wonderful exchange project will be held once a year until at least 2021 – so it is possible that they will all meet again.
